Siblings Chris Jackson and Laura Lindsay, Owners of The Underground Taphouse
Siblings Laura Lindsay and Chris Jackson’s inspiration grew from a shared love of discovering new breweries and taphouses during journeys. Chris has an amazing talent for uncovering hidden gems even the locals didn’t know about during photographic expeditions.
Capturing remarkable moments and sharing unique brewery finds became a signature trait for Chris.
During one visit, Chris excitedly shared a “crazy taphouse idea,” fueling their passion. Despite unclear specifics, his infectious enthusiasm led me to believe they could bring this concept to life.
The Aha Moment
The “aha” moment that propelled this sibling duo into action was triggered by a personal tragedy, which left one of the siblings questioning their existing career and its alignment with their values. Seeking guidance through prayer and introspection, they engaged in discussions, exploring the potential of a partnership and its dynamics.
With meticulous planning, belongings were divested, a business was closed, and the Tri-Cities was made a new home.
While numerous names and logos were considered, it was the discovery of The Underground Subway logo that inspired their choice for The Underground Taphouse as the name for this new endeavor.
Their aspiration to stand out and offer a unique experience prompted them to infuse a London-themed essence into the Tri-Cities. This aspiration has created an inviting, vibrant, and distinct space akin to “Cheers,” fostering a sense of comfort and ownership for patrons.
What Keeps Them Going
A pivotal milestone that solidified the decision to establish this company was the overwhelming support of family, friends, and fellow beer enthusiasts within the community. Even before the doors officially opened, the response was remarkable. The pre-opening selling of memberships to the Elite Founder’s Club, and soft-opening event surpassed all expectations—so much so that they found ourselves running out of beer and having to make an emergency restock.
This resounding success served as the beacon of hope that fueled their determination as they approached our opening day.
The true validation of their vision occurred when, armed with nothing more than a conceptual logo, floor plans, and an empty space, people enthusiastically turned up to back up the idea of the taphouse and secure some of the earliest memberships.
The Founders Club Elites played a pivotal role in affirming the viability of the concept. Driven by the commitment to the community, Chris and Laura’s goal has cultivated a secure, enjoyable, and amicable space, ultimately culminating in what they fondly refer to as a thriving beer community.
